Where to Play Badminton
Badminton is played indoors on a wooden floor, so the weather does not matter. Almost anyone gets the basics within the first hour, and the intensity is higher than it looks from outside.
How it is played
You play with a shuttlecock that must not touch the ground, and unlike in ball sports it does not bounce. That makes the game considerably faster, but the rallies shorter. Singles and doubles are played on the same court, only with different side lines.
What to bring
Indoor shoes with a light-coloured sole, because a dark one leaves marks on the wooden floor and many halls will not let it in. Racquets and shuttlecocks can usually be hired at reception. Feather flies differently from plastic, but at the start you will not notice the difference.
How much time to book
An hour is just right for two games; for doubles with breaks, ninety minutes suits better. In the winter months indoor courts are most in demand in the early evening between six and nine, so it pays to book ahead.
Clubs where you can play badminton
We have no badminton club yet. We add clubs based on where people want to play, so tell us yours on the home page and we will get in touch with them.
FAQ
Do I need my own racquet and shuttlecocks?
Not at the start, most halls hire them out. Shuttlecocks wear out and some clubs charge for them separately, so ask at reception.
Why do they insist on a light sole?
Dark rubber leaves marks on the wooden floor that are hard to get off. That is why most halls will not let shoes with a dark sole onto the court.
Is badminton played in summer too?
Yes, it is played indoors all year round. Summer tends to be quieter than winter, because some players switch to outdoor sports.
